Will I always get beautiful pictures of my baby?

Usually, but not always. Sometimes if the baby is persistently looking face down, i.e. towards your spine it may be difficult to see the baby's face. If this happens, a repeat scan in one hour will usually succeed because the baby has turned to a favorable position. We make no promises that the images will be similar to those you might have seen elsewhere or even from our clinic, or that we can always meet everyone's expectations. Every baby scans differently, depending on its gestational age, position, amount of fluid, and mother's condition. We promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen.

Will Baby's Premiere be able to tell if my baby is a boy or a girl?
Our staff of certified sonographers take great pride in being able to accurately identify the gender of your baby if you are at least 18 weeks. There are instances when fetal position may not allow proper visualization to adequately to make that determination. When this happens you will be invited back free of charge for limited gender check. With our GE Voluson 730 Pros’s advanced 3D/4D ultrasound technology and Baby’s Premiere’s exceptionally experienced sonographers we can virtually guarantee you will accurately know the sex of your baby (if desired) and be able to plan accordingly before he/she is born! Our sonographers are also great at keeping secrets if you do not desire to know your baby’s gender.

An Elective Prenatal 3D/4D Ultrasound is a non medical scan now being provided all across the United States by studios just like Baby’s Premiere. The ability to choose to have a non-diagnostic ultrasound has been created largely in response to the technological advancements in ultrasound and a mother’s desire to share this bonding process with her family and friends in calm and relaxing atmosphere. During an elective 3D/4D ultrasound you will be able to identify the baby’s heartbeat, check position, identify gender (if desired), document the number of babies, and obtain prenatal keepsake pictures so life like it’s truly unbelievable!

How does Baby’s Premiere’s 3D/4D Elective Ultrasound session differ from my prenatal providers diagnostic ultrasound exam?
During your elective 3D/4D ultrasound here at Baby’s Premiere you will spend quality time with your baby looking at colored life-like images using a volumetric analysis that creates 3 dimensional (3D) photos. Added to this is time, the fourth dimension (4D) or the ability to view your baby move as he/she kicks a foot, sucks a thumb, or yawns. This session is specifically focused on enhancing the bonding process before birth. It is felt that in some women this will change her level of awareness to the life that grows within and promote a change in unhealthy lifestyles to better protect her unborn child. Your diagnostic ultrasound is a 2 dimensional (2D) scan specifically done for very important medical reasons. This fetal survey is best performed using the 2D technology around 18-20 weeks. The images are various shades of grayscale and much of the exam is spent on cross-sectional images of the various anatomy of your baby. Your provider will generally allow a few minutes at the end of your exam to show you baby and give you a couple of images off their thermal printer (which does not have a long lasting emulsion). Women with normal pregnancies typically only receive one ultrasound, and even if you are lucky enough to have a provider who has 3D/4D equipment the baby is not very developed at 18 – 20 weeks. The 3D/4D ultrasound technology is best on a baby with some layers of fat typically seen after 24-26 weeks. Insurance usually pays for only one exam during the course of a normal pregnancy and obstetricians are very reluctant to order a second when a pregnancy is progressing normally.

What type of preparation does Baby’s Premiere require for my elective 3D/4D Ultrasound session?
While we do not require you to drink 40 ounces of water before your session, it is beneficial to keep yourself well hydrated for pregnancy in general. A reasonably full bladder is beneficial with ultrasound as the beam travels better through fluids than tissue and thus enhances the images we see of your baby in many cases. Also, if you are in your later months the fluid filled bladder will push up the baby’s head up and out of mom’s pelvis so we get better images.

Does Baby's Premiere require a scheduled appointment?
Yes. We require all of our elective 3D/4D ultrasound sessions to be scheduled in advance. You will need to have your provider fill out our Provider Acknowledgement Form verifying you are under prenatal care by a physician/midwife, OR you may bring in a previous ultrasound picture which we will photocopy and place it in your file.. Is my Elective 3D/4D Ultrasound at Baby's Premiere SAFE?
Yes! The FDA regulates all ultrasound equipment energies (for obstetrical scanning this is below 100 milliwatts per centimeter squared). Therefore, the manufactures of the equipment are required and have designed their equipment in accordance to these FDA mandated levels. A sonographer who is using this equipment cannot change the intensity of the energy levels emitted by their equipment. Furthermore, the energy levels have not changed with the 3D/4D capabilities; it is only the sophistication of the transducer, and computer software within the ultrasound machine that has changed with the advent of the 3D/4D ultrasound technology. Ultrasound has been used safely in obstetrics for over 35 years, during this time there has never been any documented harmful effects to mother or her baby before or after birth. Currently many physicians require that women whom are experiencing difficulties or are carrying multiple babies undergo ultrasound scans monthly and even weekly throughout much of their 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy. Many of these exams will often last 30 to 50 minutes or longer with multiple babies. If there were any known risks this would not be common practice. Baby’s Premiere 3D/4D elective ultrasound sessions last only 20 to 30 minutes at most, and much of this time is spent manipulating the images that have already been captured using software while the ultrasound beam is actually off.

Will my elective 3D/4D ultrasound at Baby's Premiere replace my diagnostic ultrasound ordered by my physician/midwife?
Absolutely NOT! The elective 3D/4D ultrasound received here at Baby’s Premiere is strictly for bonding purposes. The session is of no medical value. We however look for cardiac activity, baby position, gender identification(if desired), and verification of number of babies. Your physician/midwife will want a much more inclusive diagnostic exam. They will want a detailed look at internal organs and anatomical structures, measurements for baby’s age and weight, placental location, and diagnosis of any fetal or uterine anomalies.

What is the best time of my pregnancy to schedule my elective prenatal 3D/4D ultrasound at Baby's Premiere?
Many women using Baby’s Premiere’s elective services like the idea of chronicling their pregnancy and come in as early as 12 weeks, again at 16+ weeks for gender identification, and once again between 24 – 34 weeks when the best results for the 3D/4D ultrasound images can be obtained. If you are choosing to come only once, Baby’s Premiere recommends that you come after 24-26 weeks when your baby has developed some layers of fat and still has adequate amniotic fluid to surround him/her. Before this time your baby will still have a very skeletal appearance. However, many moms and dads can’t wait that long to find out the gender of their baby and usually come once early for gender and once later to see whom their little one is going to look like. Baby's Premiere acknowledges our repeat moms with special discounts. At Baby's Premiere we try are hardest to get the best pictures we can, unfortuantly the size of the mother can sometimes make it difficult to visualize the baby. We recommend to come in between the 26th and 29th weeks of pregnancy.

Can I invite family and friends to join me for my 3D/4D ultrasound viewing at Baby's Premiere?
Absolutely. Baby’s Premiere was created out of an overwhelming need and personal desire to offer expectant mothers, their family and friends the ability to share in the miracle of life and promote a special bonding experience before birth. The owner of Baby’s Premiere Julianne Brunner was able to recognize this need during her previous jobs as a certified sonographer working in a hospital and radiology Office for the past 14 years were many of her favorite exams were on expectant mothers. There was never enough time allotted for this very personal side of their diagnostic exam to appropriately spend with the family members going over baby. Also, being a mother of 4 and a sonographer allowed her the circumstances to witness the various stages of pregnancy through ultrasound technology and instill her firsthand a belief in the capabilities that this technology has to offer in promoting bonding before birth. It is because of this realization by professional people all over in the medical community that we are seeing the elective ultrasound industry becoming increasingly popular and in greater demand throughout the United States. 3D/4D elective ultrasound is more than “entertainment” and “keepsake photos” as some adversaries would like to describe it. This opportunity for expecting parents is truly a genuine bonding experience like no other that changes the way women and their families connect with the “Miracle of Life” that grows within them.
